Praying the Hours

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

The gospel narratives describe Jesus’ longing for unending companionship with his beloved followers. We long for companionship with Jesus too and that is why we pray. Prayer draws us into the divine life of God. In this sacred space, the Spirit of the living Christ ministers to our souls, expanding our hearts with God’s love. We are renewed in freedom, hope, and joy. In prayer we meet Christ who assures that he walks with us on our path and is conversing with us. In response, we worship with adoration and pure devotion.

The Benedictine’s (in the monastic tradition) teach us that “time in prayer” is a vessel through which God’s “here and now power” is dispensed. We receive Jesus’ time-transcending Life. Throughout the day, at fixed times, Benedictine women and men lay aside whatever they are doing to “hasten to gather” with others to pray. It’s a rhythm of prayer called the “Divine Office.” Christians down through the centuries have prayed the Divine Office – otherwise known as “praying the hours.”

In these uncertain and unsettling times we need to care for our souls. God has compassion for us in our human vulnerability and fear. So, God invites us lay aside what we are doing to “hasten to gather” with others for prayer!

We invite you to join us for “Compline Evening Prayer” every Thursday at 8:00 p.m. PST (30 minutes). A prayer guide will be provided for you. You might consider having a candle close by to light during the service.

You can watch the latest service at any time on our Facebook page. To receive a weekly invite including the link to the Zoom call, subscribe to our mailing list.
